In Loving Memory On Tuesday morning April 19, 2016, Anna Maria Potter (Abatecola) 73 passed away in her home in Naples, FL with her husband by her side. Born in Pico, Italy in 1942. She came to the USA at age sixteen, lived in E. Providence, R.I. and was a resident of Naples, FL for the passed twenty-four years. She was the daughter of the late Giovanni B Abatecola and the late Alessandra Abatecola (Conti) She was survived by her loving husband of almost 52 years, Robert L Potter, her daughter Paulette A Potter and her son Robert L Potter Jr. along with his wife Michelle. She also has four grandchildren: Alyssa, Sarah, Bella and Hayden. Seven brothers and sisters also survived her: Linda Ippolito (sister), Vittorio Abatecola and his wife Louise, John Abatecola and his wife Jenny, Aldo Abatecola and his wife Karen, Fred Abatecola and his wife Marie, Emilio Abatecola and his wife Lucia, and Laura Abatecola (sister), as well as twenty-seven nieces and nephews. Autobiography: Born in Pico, Italy in 1942, her and family survived WW II, came to America at age sixteen, learned a new language, became a US citizen, went to school and graduated from Cosmetology School in Rhode Island. She also held Cosmetology Licenses in three states. She was married in 1965 to her husband Robert Potter. They moved to California to start life’s journey together. Throughout their life’s, the corporation her husband worked for would re-locate the family to a new location. She never objected, was always supportive, and kept the children energized and excided to move to their new home. She has lived in Rhode Island, California (twice), Colorado, Maryland (DC), Georgia, New Hampshire and Florida. She was a loving wife, a doting mother and grandmother and a bit of an entrepreneur. Along life’s journey of taken care of the children, her husband and moving, she opened and owned a Beauty Salon in California and a Jewelry Store, (The Contessa Collection) on 5th avenue in Naples Florida for sixteen years before retiring. She was also a bit of a traditionalist. She would insist that every Sunday and holidays, dinner would be at grandma’s house for her children and grandchildren. Her way of keeping the family together, the way her and her husband were raised traditionally. She loved and was loved by many; she never had anything bad to say about anyone. She will be greatly missed by everyone especially her husband. She is gone but never forgotten. She will remain in our hearts forever. Anna Maria loved Gardenias and their fragrance. She had two plants outside her window, neither one in bloom. On the early morning before she passed, I looked outside and there were no flowers in bloom. After she had passed later that morning I went out to the patio where the plants were and there was one flower on the top of the plant in full bloom. Maybe her final gesture.
