Elyta Skye Roe

It is with unimaginable heartbreak that we share the passing of our beloved daughter, Elyta Skye Roe, who was born on February 12, 2009, and passed away surrounded by love on April 7, 2026, with her mom and dad at her bedside. She is deeply loved and will forever be cherished by her parents, Bruce Roe and Heather Dybus (Roe); her sister, Rayne; and her beloved fur-babies, Pearl, Jinx, and Gypsy. She is also survived by her grandma, as well as many great aunts, great uncles, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends from all over who were touched by her beautiful spirit. Elyta—lovingly known as Ely—was a bright, beautiful soul who brought light and love to everyone she met. She was a sweet angel who always thought of others before herself, with a heart full of kindness and compassion. Ely was known for her constant smile, her laughter, and her love of music—she especially enjoyed her collection of vinyl records and going to concerts. She loved building Legos, creating little worlds full of imagination and joy. She also loved cruising in her baby pink VW Beetle convertible, embracing the freedom and fun of the moment. Born in Appleton, Wisconsin, Ely’s life took her to Utah and eventually to Florida, where she continued to grow, explore, and make lasting memories. Most recently, she attended North Fort Myers High School. She lived her life with curiosity and passion, always eager to try new things and embrace every adventure that came her way. Her friendships meant everything to her, and she brought laughter, loyalty, and light into every one of them. As a young girl in Wisconsin, Ely loved being outside—swinging on the swingset, jumping on the trampoline, and riding around the neighborhood in her motorized jeep. She enjoyed playing with her bikes and riding toys, pushing her American Girl dolls in strollers, and even rollerblading. Ely made friends with so many of her teachers at day care and other kids in her classes. Those friendships turned into fun times out such as going to a park, farmers market, and swimming at grandpa’s. Aside from friends, Ely would look to see what her sister was doing and want the same dolls and toys. While living in Utah, Ely’s bravery and strength were at the forefront of her love for those around her. She stood up to bullies in elementary school—not only for herself, but for others—with confidence and courage. Ely quickly made friends with other kids in the neighborhood after moving. When Ely was moving from Sandy to Lehi, she gave some of her Monster High dolls to a friend. That friend has since given the same Monster High dolls to her little cousin. Ely’s spirit is living on through the gifts she has given others. Ely spent many days with her family hiking in the mountains and visiting the aquarium. It was there that she discovered her passion for competitive cheerleading and began taking tumbling lessons. She later explored other activities such as parkour and gymnastics. She also loved camping at Mill Creek—while it may have taken effort to pack and plan, those trips were filled with laughter, smiles, and special memories with family and friends. In August 2024, Ely’s life changed when she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. What began as a difficult journey became even more challenging as doctors searched for answers and her family worked tirelessly alongside them. Through it all—despite the uncertainty and not feeling well—Ely remained strong and positive. While we didn’t always know what lay ahead, somehow she did. She would say, “Everything will be alright, we got this.” Even in her most difficult moments, she showed incredible strength, reminding all of us what true courage looks like. Ely had a special love for animals, especially cats and big dogs, and found comfort in the therapy dogs who visited her during her time in the hospital. She cherished time with her friends, especially celebrating the holidays—dressing up for Halloween, carving jack-o’-lanterns, and building gingerbread houses at Christmas. Some of her happiest moments were spent at her grandpa’s house with family and friends—fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, and tubing, followed by evenings around the fire making s’mores and sharing laughter. After moving to Florida, Ely became a lover of theme parks. She loved nothing more than going to Disney, Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, and many others. She had a love for photography and trying to catch all the beautiful sunsets. At butterfly gardens, butterflies would land on her and tag along for the walk until they flew away. Ely also loved to video chat with her friends, hang out and be silly, or play online games with them. Though her time here was far too short, Elyta’s love, strength, and light have left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. She touched countless lives—both human and animal—and will be deeply missed beyond words. Ely’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers, both in the oncology clinic and oncology admissions, for their care and compassion. Their dedication made Ely’s final journey less frightening and more comfortable, and their kindness will always be remembered. Family and friends are invited to join Ely’s Celebration of Life on April 25, 2026 at the Cattyshack Cat Cafe in Fort Myers. We will also be streaming it live for those not attending in-person.
