Richard Benjamin Sinclair

Richard Sinclair of Rotonda West, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted father, proud veteran, and a deeply respected member of the Charlotte County community. Born on September 7, 1947, in New York City, Richard was the son of the late Benjamin and Martha Sinclair. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Masino. He is survived by his three children, Michelle (Greg) Stevens, Bridgette (William) Eastwood, Benjamin Sinclair, and by his five granddaughters: Megan Cuevas, Camryn Sinclair Thompson, Alyssa, Abbey, and Chloe Eastwood. He was also survived by his sister, Gail Wuepper. Richard was the kind of father whose love and guidance shaped every part of our lives. His devotion to family was unwavering, and he gave us the kind of support that made us feel safe, seen, and deeply loved. He served honorably in the United States Army, carrying the values of duty and integrity into every chapter of his life. As a general contractor and home builder, Richard made his mark on the Port Charlotte area through his company, St. Clair Custom Homes. He built more than houses as he also built legacies. His craftsmanship and care touched countless families. His leadership in the Charlotte De Soto Builders Association, where he served as President in 2002, reflected the respect he earned in the industry. He was also a proud member of the National Association of Home Builders and served as a liaison to the Charlotte County Building Department. In 1990, Richard moved to Port Charlotte in search of year-round sunshine and where he could have his boat in his own backyard on a dock, ready to go at any moment. Gulf Cove became his haven, a place where he could fish whenever he wanted, no longer bound by seasons. Fishing was more than a hobby for him, it was a source of peace and joy. Richard was also a well-known figure in the poker community. He loved the game, not just for the strategy, but for the friendships it brought. In recent years, he played several times a week, building community and sharing laughter around the table. Whether casting a line or playing a hand, Richard found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was a man of integrity, kindness, and quiet strength. His memory lives on in all of us who had the privilege to know him, love him, and be loved by him. A memorial service will be held by the family on Sunday September 7, 2025, from 2-5 pm at Gendron Funeral and Cremation Services 14538 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL, to the right of Sherwin Williams. A celebration of life will follow immediately after at the William A. Garvey VFW Post 8203 located at 4860 Trott Circle, North Port, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charlotte De Soto Builders Association scholarship fund in Richard’s honor. Rest in peace, Richard Sinclair, a true gentleman whose legacy will endure.
