Gerald Marcus Derwort Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gerald (Jerry) Marcus Derwort passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 from cardiac arrest at the age of 70. Jerry was born in St. Louis, MO to Bernard Derwort, PhD in Mathematics and Jessie Powell, who proceed him in death as well as siblings; James (Sue) Derwort, Joe (Ann) Derwort, Jeffrey Derwort, Michael Derwort and Jan Derwort. Survivors include his wife of 18 years Bonnie, his daughter Rebecca Derwort of Vincennes, IN, John (Gail) Derwort of Mooresville, NC, many nieces, nephews and friends. Charleston, IL is where Jerry grew up, worked at Trail Mobile and graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While in Charleston, Jerry taught at Lincoln and Heritage House. He had many friends in Charleston and enjoyed some of his most treasured times there. In 1987, Jerry moved to Ft. Myers, FL to raise his daughter Becky. Jerry taught Exceptional Student Education at the elementary level for 35 years. With Jerry’s abundance of humor, expertise conveying subject matter and sharp speaking talents, he made learning fun for his students. Jerry’s kindness, generous nature and most of all his sense of humor will be sorely missed. Jerry sang, played guitar and piano. He enjoyed playing golf, working out at his gym and completing daily crossword puzzles. Jerry gave the gift of life by being an organ donor. He always carried a song in his heart and we loved him. A Celebration of his Life will take place on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Gendron Funeral Home and Crematory located at 2701 Lee Blvd. Lehigh Acres, FL 33971 Donations in his name may be made to the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
