Katharine Nancy Depauw

December 24, 1927 - April 5, 2022

Katharine Nancy Depauw, 94, of Lehigh Acres, Florida died April 5, 2022 at Hope Hospice in the presence of family. A resident of Lehigh Acres for 17 years, she was born Katharine Nancy MacLeod on December 24, 1927 in Richmond, Michigan to H. Pere MacLeod and Mildred Gaffney MacLeod. She grew up and graduated high school in Romeo, Michigan. After that, she studied and taught ballet and tap dancing. She met her spouse Arthur Oscar Depauw and was married on August 5, 1950. Together, they raised six children on a farm in Armada, Michigan where she was a stay-at-home mom. She was also a school bus driver for 17 years. Katharine and Arthur began wintering in Florida in 1975. After Arthur’s death in 1996 (married for 46 years), she continued to split her time between Michigan and Florida until she moved to Pine Island, Florida permanently in 1998. In 2005, she moved to Lehigh Acres and enjoyed her final years there. Katharine loved boating and shelling and was able to enjoy these activities until just recently. Besides dancing, she also played the piano and organ and was an active member of Saint Raphael Catholic Church where she was a eucharistic minister and a member of the Saint Faustina Bible Study. Other hobbies in her past included running and aerobics. She is survived by two sons, Arthur (Christine) of North Port, Florida, and John (Amy) of Lehigh Acres, Florida; two daughters, Renee Depauw of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Gabrielle Kidnie of Clinton Township, Michigan. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Katharine was predeceased by her parents, husband, three brothers (Dick, John, and Hugh MacLeod), her son Michael (Chantal) of Fort Myers, Florida, her daughter Mary (Rick) Block of Victorville, California, and her son-in-law Allan Kidnie. Visitation will be held at Gendron Funeral and Cremation Services, 2701 Lee Boulevard, Lehigh Acres, Florida, on Tuesday, April 12 from 1 – 4 p.m. and 5 – 8 p.m. The Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 5:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 13 at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, 2514 Lee Boulevard, Lehigh Acres, Florida. Following that, Katharine’s wishes were to be cremated then buried in Michigan next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to Animal Refuge Center, 18011 Old Bayshore Road, North Fort Myers, Florida 33917. Katharine will be sadly missed by her friends and family. While she achieved much in her long life, perhaps her greatest accomplishment was introducing her family, and all who would listen, to the Lord.
