Robert F. Gerding

Robert F. Gerding, 99, of Lehigh Acres, Fl. passed away on April, 17, 2021. He was born on February 6, 1922 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Fred J. and Dorothea W. (Degenhardt) Gerding. He attended high school in Rutherford, NJ, and the University of Kentucky. Robert joined the Army in December of 1942 and was honorably discharged in March of 1946. He received the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a Metallurgical supervisor for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Bethlehem, PA for 30 years. Robert belonged to the American Society for Metals, Boys Scouts and the American Legion Post 323 in Lehigh Acres, FL. He was also a member of the Bible Fellowship Church in Bethlehem, PA. Robert is preceded in death by his wife Dixie E. (Thompson) Gerding and his son Larry Gerding. Robert is survived by his children, Wayne (Penny) Gerding of Waddy, KY, Diane (Damon) Shelor of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Darlene (David) Nemeth of Bethlehem, PA. Grandchildren Heather Gerding, Kelly Shelor, Lisa Shelor, Melissa Nemeth, Brian Nemeth, Tabatha (Steve) Bennett and Scott (Lindsey) Jodon. Great grandchildren Kyle (Kreston) Bennett and Whitney (Colby) Peters, and a nephew Kent (Cheryl) Mays. A visitation will be held on Saturday April 24, 2021 at Gendron Funeral Home. Located at 2701 Lee Blvd. Lehigh Acres, FL from 2:00-4:00 PM with a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
