Carol Ann Underwood

On July 13, 2016 we lost an amazing and wonderful woman, Carol Ann Underwood passed away unexpectedly in her home in Lehigh Acres, FL at the young age of 70. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on July 23, 2016 at 1 PM at Christ United Methodist Church, 1430 Homestead Rd N, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936 Carol is survived by her three sons and their spouses: Dennis J Monos and his wife, Cynthia; Andy Monos and his wife, Karen; and Tim Monos, Her grandchildren, Andrew and James Monos and step grandchildren, Brittany Cordes and Ryan Cordes. And a large number of extended family members. To mention a few: Gil and Judy Monos, David and Sarah Monos, Gary Monos, Cheryl Monos, Steve and Kim Knutson, Jack Knutson and niece and nephews. And her faithful dog, Angel. Carol was preceded in death by her Father, James Unk; Mother Anna Unk; Step Father, Frank “Topper” Turvey; sister Linda Kidd; niece, Carolann Unk; Ex-Husband, Dennis G Monos and their unborn child, David. Carol was a born in Akron, OH on February 22, 1946. At a very young age she was blessed when she was adopted by James and Anna Unk who gave her a wonderful life. In her younger years she enjoyed being a dancer. In her late teens she did some modeling for a local Ohio business. She was a semi-finalist in a Miss Teenage America pageant in 1961. She was married to Dennis G Monos for 13 years. They had 3 boys, Dennis, Andy, and Tim whom she cherished. Later she was married to Gerald Underwood also for 13 years. She was a cancer survivor. Once her boys were all in school she started a career in law enforcement with the Lee County Sheriff Dept. While she was proud to be in law enforcement, she found more joy in book keeping. Her favorite place to work was Ranch 1 as their book keeper mostly because it felt more like a family than a place of employment. Family was everything to Carol. She was an extremely loving mom and mother-in-law, even more so as a grandmother to her 2 grandchildren, Andrew and James and her 2 step grandchildren, Brittany and Ryan. And her dog, Angel was also one of the loves of her life. Her love went beyond just her family. She has been like a mom to a lot of her children's friends. There isn't one child on her block that didn't look at her as a grandma. And then were her numerous friends. She was like a magnet and could draw people to her just by talking to them with her soft, soothing voice which we will never forget as well as her laugh and her smile. Her friends go back many, many years and still would talk with them very often. Her love just poured out of her naturally. That was not learned, that was a gift from God, whom she also loved and cherished. Her faith was deep. We know for a fact she has worked her way up to being one of the top angels in heaven in this short period of time. There is no doubt in our minds. Besides spending time with family and friends, Carol enjoyed watching movies, playing solitaire on her tablet, swimming, watching dolphins at the beach. She enjoyed listening to music. One of her favorites was Josh Groban. Carol will be missed more than words can say. I know we will see her again when it is our time and I can imagine her pushing her way passed the rest of the family just to get to us with her arms opened wide and her beautiful smile welcoming us. She will always be loved and will never be forgotten.
