Matthew Ryan Afflerbach

Matthew Ryan Afflerbach, a beloved husband, son, brother and friend, left this world on August 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and light. Born on August 29, 1994, in Sarasota, Florida, Matthew was a beacon of joy and positivity, known for his infectious smile and the warmth he shared with everyone he met. Matthew was the cherished son of Marc and Rebecca Afflerbach and the devoted brother of Mary Afflerbach. Raised in a home filled with love, laughter, and constant encouragement, Matthew grew up to be a deeply loving son, brother and a doting uncle to his adored nephew, Cooper. Matthew's life was enriched by his deep love for his family and his commitment to helping others. His memory lives on through his surviving family: his devoted spouse, Brandon M. Afflerbach; His loving parents, Marc A. and ReBecca A. Afflerbach and his sister, Mary E. Afflerbach (Evan, Cooper, Gavin & Evelyn) ; his grandparents, Alan and Ruth Afflerbach, and Lisa Beaudoin; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him. He was predeceased by his beloved grandparents Edmond R. Beaudoin, June M. Bell, James Bell, and his great grandmother Phyllis Ansell, as well as his Mother in law Kathleen J. Brown. He was a proud graduate of North Port High School and went on to further his education at the University of Alabama, where he graduated with an associate degree, and later at Arizona State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2023. In 2012, after graduation, Matthew answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Over the course of his service, he achieved the rank of E4 in the Ability Air Forces Integrated Instrument/FLT Control Systems. He was honorably discharged in 2015, having earned several commendations, including the AAF Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and AF Training Ribbon. Matthew's love story with Brandon began in December 2022, and they married on September 2, 2025. Their journey together was marked by adventure and exploration, as they traveled to Amsterdam, Maine, and countless other destinations. They especially cherished their visits to Nashville, the Nashville tractor, and countless Nashville Predators games. He and his husband had recently returned from a honeymoon cruise which entailed deep love and connection. In 2025, they had the unique opportunity to study abroad in Malaysia, immersing themselves in diverse cultures—a trip Matthew eagerly planned to revisit with his beloved husband. By his husband he will deeply be remembered for his immense love of travel, his family, and the kindness that he shared with the world. Those who knew Matthew will remember his big, quirky smile and his ability to lighten any room with humor and kindness. He had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, touching countless lives with his genuine spirit. Matthew's departure leaves an irreplaceable void, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the power of laughter, love, and unwavering kindness. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. A memorial service to celebrate Matthew's life will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
