Susan Marie McMahon Godme

Susan Marie McMahon Godme passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 31, 2026. Born February 7, 1955, to Charles and Betty (Ellis) McMahon, Susan was one of eight children and a proud McMahon through and through. She is preceded in death by her brothers Danny McMahon and his wife, Sandy, and Mike McMahon. She is survived by her siblings Cathy Holle, whose husband, Terry, preceded her in death; Steve McMahon, whose wife, Jane, preceded him in death; Mary Abel (David); Joe McMahon; and Jacquie McMahon; as well as her sister-in-law Judy. Susan cherished the family she gained through marriage, including her brothers-in-law Roy (Lora) and Scott (Kelly). On May 16, 1998, she married Douglas, beginning a life together filled with love, adventure, and companionship. Over the years, Susan and Doug traveled, camped, explored, and made a lifetime of memories together. Whether they were setting off somewhere new or simply enjoying life side by side, they built a life rich in experiences, laughter, and stories worth telling. Following her retirement from AT&T, Susan and Doug moved to Southwest Florida, where she quickly made a full and beautiful life for herself. Retirement was never going to mean sitting still for Susan. She found new places to belong, new friendships to nurture, and new ways to give her time and talents to others. She volunteered, created, gathered, supported, and made connections wherever she went. Southwest Florida became much more than the place Susan retired. It became another home, filled with people she loved and people who loved her in return. She had a remarkable ability to turn acquaintances into friends and friends into family, and her absence will be felt throughout the many circles she was part of. Creativity was an important part of that life. Susan became involved with her local art club, where she found not only an outlet for her artistic side, but a community of fellow artists and friends. She enjoyed creating, learning, sharing ideas, and spending time alongside people who appreciated art as much as she did. Those friendships became an important part of her Florida family. Susan and Doug were also proud supporters of the Araba Shriners, and Susan gave generously of her time to the Shrine community. She embraced the fellowship, events, friendships, and service that came with it. Like so many of the communities Susan became part of, she didn’t simply show up; she became involved, made friends, and found ways to contribute. Susan lived a life marked by friendship, creativity, generosity, and a genuine love for the people around her. Family was an important part of her life, and she loved her many nieces and nephews dearly. Susan never had children of her own, but she stepped wholeheartedly into Grandma life to Braiden, who preceded her in death, and Maci (Ryan) of Indianapolis. She loved being their grandma, but perhaps her greatest treasure came later in life when she became a great-grandmother to Abel, Kai, Aslan, and Hallow. Her great-grandchildren brought a special kind of happiness to her life, and she loved making memories with them. Whether they were going to Disney World, searching for seashells at the beach, or making popcorn and sweet treats for a movie night at home, Susan treasured every moment spent together. She loved them deeply and embraced every opportunity to make their time together special. In the final chapter of her life, Susan found renewed strength, peace, and comfort in her relationship with Christ. Her faith grew stronger as her body grew weaker, and that faith now brings tremendous comfort to those who loved her most. While cancer took much from her earthly body, it never changed who she was. She had an unwavering spirit that persisted till the end. There is joy in knowing that Susan is alive in Christ, made new and whole again. No cancer. No pain. No failing body. Only the promise of eternal life and the comfort of knowing that this goodbye is not forever. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and carried forward in the lives of the family, friends, and communities who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s honor to the Araba Shriners General Fund. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 12, 2026 starting at 1:00 pm at Gendron Funeral Home 2325 E. Mall Drive Fort Myers, Fl 33901. Celebration of life in Indianapolis on October 25th at St. John Lutheran (6630 Southeastern Ave) Senitments at 4pm and visitation to follow
